On December 12, 2017, Daniel made headlines for his airport fashion after being spotted wearing Dokdo sneakers at Incheon Airport. Profits from the sneakers were used to raise awareness for the Korean island. The sneakers were paired with a Los Angeles Project brown duffel coat that was called the tteokbokki coat due to the fasteners looking like rice cake. The coat turned out to be affordable, and so many people bought the coat that LAP had to restock it 7 times. Daniel was officially revealed as LAP’s model a month later on January 23.^[s] LAP opened pre-orders for Daniel’s Pick Edition line on January 24 and reported that the website received 17 million visits a day, causing the server to crash.^[s] LAP did not have a street-style fashion line before and created a casual line for Daniel after signing him to better align with his style.^[s]

Due to the explosive online interest, LAP started selling the specialty line at their offline locations starting February 8.^[s] In April 2018, LAP expanded overseas by opening the first store in Japan after receiving a lot of love from Korean consumers with Kang Daniel’s line.^[s] LAP also had a long waiting line at KCON Japan.^[s] In August 2018, there were 5,000 pre-orders for a new padding coat, and an LAP official stated it was the first time LAP had all pre-orders reserved before a launch.^[s]
